Sports
'Variety is the spice of life' and St. George's has it all. The games are played seasonally and all possible games are accomodated to keep the students busy with something of their interest.
School authorities make sure that the boys stay fit. A compulsory 2.5km run popularly known as the "Fox Hill Runs" has kept the boys fit for years. Our Gymnasium is equipped with 'state of the art' fitness equipments imported from Germany. Football, Cricket, Field Hockey and Table Tennis are the primary games at St. George's College. However, manorites also have the choice to play Basketball on national level basketball courts and swim in the indoor heated pool. The newly made synthetic tennis courts and the badminton courts are also very popular amongst manorites. Besides these, athletics, roller hockey and skating are other popular sports at St. George's.
Owing to the excellent training, old boys from our school have represented India in multiple Olympics and made the nation proud. Our four houses have been named after former students who were Olympic Gold Medalists. (See:- House System)
Presented below is a brief description about the various major sports played at St. George's.
Basketball
A recent sport to hit the waves in SGC - basketball has already found a fan following that is beyond compare. Inter-School competitions have only fuelled the passion for "shooting some hoop". With two outdoor and an international standard indoor court (host to ONGC's national tournament), basketball is a game that is here to stay.
As in all sports here, the boys are trained from the very beginning and matches and tournaments are played in all divisions. There is an inter-school tournament hosted St. George's and other tournaments are also organized by various schools in the region. This combined with sheer hard work put in by the coach and boys has made us probably the only team to win an international level school basketball tournament - Elites International Basketball Tournament organized at the Elites School, Kathmandu, Nepal.

From former chief Election Commissioner of India M. S. Gill bowling left arm pace for St. George's in 1949 to the legendry Sunil Gavaskar motivating Manorites in the 1980's, St. George's has a relationship with cricket. The number of playfields that our school provides has proven to be a great advantage for our school cricket team. Exceptionable coaches like Mr. Anand Thapa, immense work and impeccable strategy have led us to the very top of all the local tournaments and leagues.
If one asks a Manorite to name ten common diseases, the first thing he'll probably say is "Football Fever" and that's not because he's an ignoramus. It is because Manorites are simply football crazy.
St. George's College has been a platform for high achievers ever since it came to existance. The institution has produced seven Hockey Olympians, who with Dhyan Chand, the 'wizard of the hockey stick' wrought magic on international hockey fields. G.E. Marthins, W.G. Cullen, L.C. Emett and N. Nugent are names which all Manorites are bound to know, not only because the four houses are named after them but also due to their legacy of upholding dignity of the school.
We play a lot of Table Tennis here at SGC. The best part is that 'T.T.' is evenly distributed throughout the year. Therefore our paddlers are busy round the year imposing their dominance not just in and around the Dehradun district but much beyond. The tournaments begin in June-July, the primary stages being organised by the local municipal organisations. Here the standard is set by our boys, thanks to many hours of tedious practice in our Table Tennis Hall, which as a matter of fact has 10 state-of-the-art internationally approved tables. From the local tournaments we move to the district and state championships. Most of our better paddlers usually carve out a niche for themselves, inspite of the intense competition. The former UP state champion, Varun Jain is a Manorite. The School has produced a number of National players.
